How to Use the Pomodoro Timer

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method that uses a timer to break work into focused intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks.

Step 1: Choose Your Mode

Select one of the three modes from the tabs:

  • Work: A 25-minute session for focused, uninterrupted work.
  • Short Break: A 5-minute break to relax and recharge.
  • Long Break: A 15-minute break, typically taken after four "Work" cycles.

Step 2: Start the Timer

Click the "Start" button to begin the countdown. The circular progress bar and the timer will show the remaining time. The page title will also update, so you can see the time left even if you switch tabs.

Step 3: Work or Rest

If you're in "Work" mode, focus solely on your task. If you're on a break, step away from your work to rest your mind. When the timer finishes, an alert sound will play, and the timer will automatically switch to the next appropriate mode (e.g., from Work to Short Break).

Controls

  • Pause/Start: Toggles the timer on and off.
  • Reset: Resets the timer for the current mode to its full duration.

The "Cycles completed" counter helps you track your progress. After completing 4 work cycles, the timer will automatically suggest a long break.
